Tuition Assistance Clarification

28 Oct 2020 by Alphonzo Glover
All,

You may have heard there were some updates to Tuition Assistance (TA) with the new FY. Specifically, the cap was lowered to $3,750 from the $4,500 annual cap it was set at last year. While this may be true, it does not apply to reservists. I have attached official correspondence from HAF/A1 below.

Teammates,

Straight from our Program Mangers!

No, the $3750 does not apply to the ANG and AFRC. This is addressed in AFGM2020-02_AFI 36-2670, para 6.5.1.1.:

*6.5.1.1. Paragraph 6.5.1.1 is replaced in its entirety with the following: The Air Force
provides Military Tuition Assistance for the cost of tuition not to exceed $250 per semester hour
or $166.66 per quarter hour (T-0), subject to an annual cap of $3,750 per fiscal year (T-1). Any
combined use for Reservists of Regular Air Force Military Tuition Assistance and Reserve
Military Tuition Assistance has an annual cap of $4,500.00; the two funding sources cannot be
used to pay for the same course. Military Tuition Assistance for activated Guard and tuition
assistance benefit offered by the State Air National Guard cannot be used to pay for the same
course. (T-0).
