On the 17th - 18th of August 2019 the selected WAG athletes for Level 5-7 competed at the NSW State Championships at Rooty Hill SGAC. We had 14 athletes selected to compete across 11 different age divisions and 3 different levels. Unfortunately one of our athletes Jasmine Bennetts had to pull out of this event due to illness and we hope that she is recovering well and will be back at training when it is safe for her to return.
In Level 7 we had Jasmine Kibble compete in Division 3 and Rebecca Hoffman compete in division 4. Both girls competed all 4 routines without any falls or major errors and were quite pleased with how they competed. Jasmine placed 23rd overall in division 3 and had a PB on floor of 11.833 placing her 10th on that apparatus. Rebecca placed 26th overall in division 4 and did extremely well after only just returning from a hamstring injury.
In Level 5 we had Violette Erlenwein and Riley Atkinson compete in division 1 placing 26th and 30th overall respectively. Violette was part of the level 5 City team in the City vs Country competition and they won both in her age division and overall for level 5. In division 2 Lauren competed extremely well earning herself 4th place on floor, 9th on beam and =11th Overall. In division 3 Nicola Cutter placed 17th Overall including 9th place on Floor and Bella Gee placed 20th Overall in Division 4 including 7th place on floor.
In Level 6 we had Ruby McGoldrick and Kate Partridge competing in division 1. Kate was the runner-up NSW State Champion placing 2nd overall. She was also the runner-up champion on the Bars and Beam and 4th on Floor. Ruby placed 5th Overall including runner-up champion on the floor as well as 4th on bars and 6th on vault.
In Division 2 Maya Atkinson was named the NSW Overall State Champion! She is also the NSW State Champion on Vault, Runner-up State Champion on Bars and Beam and placed 5th on the Floor. Zoe Berriman is the NSW State Champion on the Bars and placed =10th Overall which is an absolutely amazing achievement considering she had 2 falls on the balance beam. Both Maya and Kate were on the City vs Country team for level 6 in which they both won their age divisions and tied with the country team in the overall.
In Division 3 Halle Dickinson placed =4th Overall including 3rd place on Beam, 5th on Bars and 9th on Floor. Alice Boffa placed 3rd on Floor which we are especially happy for her about as she overcame her fears to compete the level 6 requirements and it earned her this award. She also placed 6th on Bars and 13th Overall.
We are so incredibly proud of every single one of our amazing gymnasts who competed on the weekend! Every single one of them acted so maturely and professionally. They were all composed throughout their routines even when some things did not go to plan and they all supported one another across the entire weekend! We are very lucky to have such beautiful young ladies as part of our gymnastics club and as mentors to our younger athletes. Congratulations to everyone!
I also want to say a big thank you to all of our parents that spent most of their weekend out at Rooty Hill not only for their own daughter's competition sessions but for other team-mates sessions as well with many staying all the way until the very end of the entire weekend! I would also like to thank and congratulate Monika for all of her hard work and dedication to our level 5-7 girls and their training. We could not have done any of this without you and to Alexa and Jason who gave up their free time to come and watch/volunteer. I know the girls appreciated having you there to support them.
