COVID-19 Updates

Return to Sport Update – As of July 1
The Victorian Governments announcement on Tuesday 30 June for particular suburbs (postcodes) to revert back to Stage 3 restrictions (due to COVID-19 localised ‘hotspots’) has an impact on domestic basketball in those areas.

From 11.59pm 1 July to 29 July, associations who have facilities, clubs and participants who reside in the suburbs below unfortunately will not be able to conduct basketball activity (Return to Red-0 in Basketball Victoria’s – Return to Sport Guidelines):

3012: Brooklyn, Kingville, Maidstone, Tottenham, West Footscray.
3021: Alban Vale, Kealba, Kings Park, St Albans.
3032: Ascot Vale, High Point City, Maribyrnong, Travancore.
3038: Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge, Taylors Lakes, Watergardens.
3042: Airport West, Keilor Park, Niddrie.
3046: Glenroy, Hadfield, Oak Park.
3047: Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana.
3055: Brunswick South, Brunswick West, Moonee Vale, Moreland West.
3060: Fawkner.
3064: Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mickleham, Roxburgh Park and Kalkallo.
While we understand this will be a bitter blow to those affected, we ask the basketball community in these areas to observe the Victorian Government restrictions and only leave your home for work or school, care or caregiving, daily exercise and food shopping.

Hopefully with everyone’s vigilance, we will see a reduction in cases across these areas and the rest of Victoria in the coming days and weeks, and everyone will have the opportunity to return to group trainings and competitions.

In the meantime, we will continue to support the affected associations during this period and ensure they are ready to return when safe to do so.

The rest of Victoria is still at Orange-50 for Indoor Training and Competition for those 18 years and under, and Orange-20 (non contact) Indoor / Outdoor Training for those 19 years and over. Subject to the advice of Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and the continued management of the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), adults (19 years and over) can resume full-contact training from 13 July and full-contact competition from 20 July – as per DHHS.

Summary of Current Restrictions:

FOR THOSE AFFECTED SUBURBS AS ABOVE

ALL AGES: July 2 until July 29 – Reactivation Status = RED – 0

FOR THE REMAINDER OF VICTORIA

FOR 18 YEARS OLD AND UNDER: Current Reactivation Status = ORANGE – 50

Full contact training and competition for both indoor and outdoor is currently possible
FOR 19 YEARS OLD AND OVER: Current Reactivation Status = Orange-20

Non-contact training for both indoor and outdoor is currently possible
FOR 19 YEARS OLD AND OVER: Mid July – Reactivation Status TBC = ORANGE 20/50

Full contact training for both indoor and outdoor) from July 13 (to be confirmed by DHHS)
Resumption of competition both indoor and outdoor from July 20 (to be confirmed by DHHS)
VJBL

While our focus continues to be on a return to local participation, we also understand that there is ongoing interest in the VJBL. At this stage, due to the impacts of the lockdown zones we have decided that the VJBL season cannot commence from July 17. We believe that the VJBL is an important junior representative league for thousands of Victorians; hence we are currently working through a number of options for a potential competition resumption. We aim to provide more certainty about the VJBL in the coming days.
