In the lead up to the TAS Youths event, we will run 2 pre-season training days on September 21st & 28th for Optis (all levels), International Cadets & 29ers.

ZHIK Tasmanian Youth Sail Event: Coaching Clinic & Youth Championships

This year’s 2024 Zhik Youth Sail event is quickly approaching! We are excited to host this year’s event, which will run between the 10th – 13th of October. The Zhik Youth Sail TAS 2024 event includes a two day coaching camp with Tasmania’s top coaches followed by the two day Tasmania Youth Championships. We are excited to announce that we will be joined by not just 1 but TWO Australian Olympic sailors as a part of this event, 2021 Tokyo Olympian sailor Mara Stranksy, and 2024 Paris Olympian Evie Haseldine! We also are excited to welcome an Opti Coach from QLD who will be joining us, in addition to some of Tasmania’s best local coaches.

The coaching clinic and regatta are open to all Australian Sailing junior and youth classes. The Green Fleet program, which will be a part of the event, targets sailors who have recently completed a Tackers 2 Learn to sail program or equivalent. The focus is on having fun and learning new skills as an introduction to racing conducted by qualified instructors/foundation coaches and is an ideal way to participate in your first regatta.

Put your skills to the test in the 2 day Youth Championship regatta, with some amazing prizes to be won from our sponsors – generous gift vouchers from Zhik and Optimum Time sailing watches from ESP.
Youth Sail is focussed on growing participation in junior and youth classes, increasing sailors’ skills, fostering social connection, and building friendship and community between our youth sailors.

WORKING BEE WEEKEND – SEPTEMBER 21ST & 22ND

Can you believe it, the 2024/2025 season is nearly upon us!! With a busy season ahead, the clubhouse is in need of some TLC ahead of Summer. Join us at the Club for a Volunteer Working Bee, taking place on September 21st & 22nd.

We appreciate our members have busy lives, so this year once again offering the option to come down and contribute over the course of the weekend when it suits you. There will be a variety of fulfilling tasks aimed at enhancing our beloved sailing club. We are after some hands in addition to help put a new coat of antifoul on our start boat! Email admin@sandybaysailingclub.org.au if you can assist. A list of tasks will be available closer to the date.

So, bring your shovels, brooms, and gardening equipment – many hands make light work!

OPENING DAY – OCTOBER 19TH
The 2024/2025 season gets started with opening day taking place on October 19th. This will be the first day of Green Fleet and the first day of Pennant Racing! We will have traditional opening day procedures happening before the start of pennant racing. We look forward to seeing you there!

Registration for the 2024 SBSC Summer Pennant will be once again mandatory this year. This is to ensure we can keep track of who will be attending on race days. Registration for Members is free of charge, with non-members encouraged to attend at a rate of $20 per race day!

COME & TRY INTERNATIONAL CADET – OCTOBER 19TH

Come & Try an International Cadet! Saturday October 19th 10am – 12pm.
Experience the fun, speed and teamwork of sailing an International Cadet.
Over the course of 2 hours, our coach and experienced Cadet sailors will show you how the boat works, the roles of the Helm and Crew and take you out on the water to learn the basics.

Lifejackets mandatory. We recommend you also bring a wetsuit, cap and sunglasses (you can change after you arrive).

MIDWEEK TRAINING TERM 4 2024
Midweek training will be happening again this season. Registration will open soon, but the weekly schedule will look like this, to help people plan their term 4! Midweek sessions will run from 4:30pm – 6:30pm commencing October 28th – December 20th 2024. Registration for these will be open soon! Green Fleet & Tackers 2 Saturday Mornings Term 4
Our term 4 Green Fleet program will be happening on Saturday Mornings in term 4. We have added Tackers 2 programming as well on Saturday morning!

NOVEMBER OPTI CAMP – PETER MCCANN

Peter is an eight time National Champion in Ireland in various classes, and have 2 top 10 results at the Optimist European championships. He is a professional coach with 10 years of experience, coaching mainly in Ireland, but also in the US and across Europe. For the past 2 years he has been coaching full time in Australia, mainly based in Sorrento, coaching the Optimist National Champion in 2022, and the girls National Champion in 2023.
This is the second of 3 training camps conducted by SBSC.
