The Southern Province Level 1 Coaching Course, held over four intensive days, aimed to refine coaching expertise through practical and theoretical sessions delivered by esteemed cricket educators.
Day 1 began with opening remarks by Shanaka Fernando, who set the tone by addressing the coach code of behavior and the role of a coach in player development. Sujeewa Gunarathne conducted a session on net coaching techniques and coaching skills, followed by a batting workshop led by Shanaka. The day concluded with a comprehensive skill development session by Sujeewa.
On Day 2, Sujeewa focused on session planning and advanced skill development techniques. A fast bowling lecture by Lasith Chaminda, followed by a practical session with Charith Paliyage, enriched the day. The afternoon featured a spin bowling workshop led by Sujeewa, with Shanaka concluding with practical skill enhancement for spinners.
Day 3 emphasized wicket-keeping drills and strategies, led by Shanaka. Sujeewa delivered an insightful fielding presentation, and the day ended with fielding drills and session planning exercises.
Day 4 served as assessment day, with assessors Shanaka Fernando, Sujeewa Gunarathne, and Ushantha Gunarathne evaluating participants. The day began with an online nutrition program by Dr. Hashan, reinforcing the holistic approach to player and coach development.
The course was a resounding success, equipping coaches with the skills to elevate cricketing standards in the region.
