To our Mentone Mustangs families,
We are so excited to get the season underway and are very proud of our 90 teams from U8’s to Open competition.
We ask you to reflect on your role as a parent of a player, both during the game and as you leave the stadium.
*Encourage and support your child’s participation
*Cheer and acknowledge all good plays whether they be by your children’s team or the other
team.
*Accept decisions of all referees as being fair and called to the best of their ability. Accept bad
calls graciously.
*Allow the coach to coach – by resisting the temptation to coach your child yourself.
No one, other than the head coach, should be yelling out instructions, criticism or guidance to any player or official, including their own child. A barrage of information, feedback and multiple instructions ultimately leads to confusion and adds to the chaos of trying to navigate through a 40 minute game. This applies to assistant coach & team manager as well as parents/family & friends. The Coach is there to do just that.... COACH!
Our fantastic and invaluable coaches have volunteered their free time to coach one or more teams to provide the best basketball development for players, while building strong relationships. Support your coach but allowing just 1 voice of instruction. Whether beginners or experienced players, your child will be following the instructions given by their coach. You may not always be aware of these.
We implore you to remember that this is a kids’ sport. Parents must act as role models and set the example. We ask everyone to check your behaviour and consider whether you are acting in the best interest of your child, your team, the club and the game of basketball. We are all bound as players, parents, officials and spectators by a Code of Conduct that must be adhered to at all times. The club will exercise Zero Tolerance to breaches of the codes. Please take the time to read the following and to go through the code of conduct with your children.
If you witness behaviour that you feel is out of line, please speak up. Sometimes a friendly reminder that certain behaviours are excessive is all that someone needs to check their own behaviour.
We are extremely proud of our passionate Mustangs families and the support they continue to show our club and live our values of DEVELOPMENT, FUN, RESPECT & WELLBEING.
Looking forward to seeing you court side - GO MUSTANGS!
