6th – 12th graders & parents: Time to start thinking about the 2024 mountain bike season! Come to the pre-season meeting to get updates for this year, meet coaches and other parents, ask questions.
The 7220 Laramie mountain bike team is an inclusive environment for all rider abilities from first-time through nationally competitive riders. The team is open to all 6th-12th grade riders. We believe in building strong minds, bodies, character, and communities through cycling. Rule 1: fun! We follow positive coaching practices and work to develop each rider to their chosen potential. The team offers kids opportunities to be involved in practices, community service, and races (if they so choose).
Our official season is in the fall, from August until the end of October. During this time, team members spend three days a week practicing on our local trails and spend every other weekend racing.
The team practices regularly in the late summer and fall, participates in races and events in southeast Wyoming, and (optionally) high school students travel down to Colorado to race in the Colorado Cycling League. High school students compete in the Colorado High School Cycling League (North, Platte Division). The team holds regular practices in the “Schoolyard” (state section east of town), at Happy Jack Recreation Area, Curt Gowdy State Park, and the Medicine Bow Mountains.
In the offseason riders participate in skills camps and fun rides, while also giving back to the community by volunteering at events like the Laramie Epic or local trail maintenance events. We welcome all levels of riders to our team, from hardcore racers to those who are just learning to ride. Racing is not required to ride and practice with the team!
